Medical professionals all around the nation have been instructed to treat gunshot victims without requesting a police report by acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun.
When he issued the directive, Egbetokun urged medical professionals to raise awareness of the problem among Nigerians.
A police internal document dated October 25, 2023, written by Olatunji Disu, the Force Principal Staff Officer, stated the IGP’s decision, which was based on the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act, 2017.

The commandants of the police colleges in Ikeja, Kaduna, Oji-River, Maiduguri, and Enugu, as well as all deputy inspectors general and assistant inspectors general of police, were the recipients of the memo.
I am forwarding a copy of the letter HMSH&SW/IG/CTCV/ 10/2023 dated October 3, 2023, received from the Federal Ministry of Health & Social Welfare on the subject mentioned above. Additionally, I am writing to convey the Inspector-General of Police’s directive that you immediately comply with and enforce the provisions of the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act 2017.”
