Reconstruction of Rivers House of Assembly Auditorium to Cost N19.5bn

The Rivers State Executive Council has given its approval for the allocation of N74.9bn towards various contracts in the state. Out of this amount, N19.5bn will be utilized for the reconstruction of the demolished House of Assembly auditorium.

In addition to this, the council has also approved other contracts such as the construction of the Kalaibiama/Epellema road, the completion of four zonal hospitals across the state, the renovation of the Bonny General Hospital, the renovation and upgrade of the Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo, and the construction of a new General Hospital in Rumuigbo, located in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

According to a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Nelson Chukwudi, the Kalaibiama-Epellema road and bridge in Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area will require over N29bn, while the construction of the hospitals will cost N26.3bn.

The zonal hospitals are situated in Ahoada Town in Ahoada Local Government, Degema Town in Degema Local Government, Omoku Town in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government, and Bori Town in Khana Local Government Area.

The state government has expressed its commitment to completing the construction of these zonal hospitals in order to enhance the delivery of secondary level healthcare services to the people of the state.

During the council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and attended by Deputy Governor Prof Ngozi Odu and other council members at the Government House in Port Harcourt, it was decided to cancel all previous contracts awarded for the construction of the zonal hospitals.

Following the meeting, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh, stated that the approval was granted based on the memos presented by the Ministry of Health to the State Executive Council.

The ministry had requested the cancellation and termination of all existing contracts for the zonal hospitals in the state, and the subsequent awarding of new contracts that would facilitate the completion of the projects, including the renovation of the Bonny General Hospital.

We express our gratitude to the Rivers State Executive Council for approving the termination of contracts for the completion of the Zonal Hospitals at Ahoada, Bori, Degema, and Omoku, as well as the re-award of fresh contracts for their completion.

The total sum of N26,350,310,714.88k was approved for these projects, including the renovation of Bonny General Hospital, the upgrade of the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, and the construction of a new General Hospital at Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The State Executive Council also approved the award of fresh contracts to competent contractors capable of delivering on these projects.

Additionally, the Rivers State Ministry of Special Projects presented two memos requesting the award of separate contracts, including the reconstruction and furnishing of the Rivers State House of Assembly Auditorium Complex.
