Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming 2023 election, has revealed that he may extend his support to Peter Obi, his Labour Party counterpart from the previous election, in the 2027 election.
Currently engaged in merger talks with opposition political parties, Atiku expressed his willingness to back Obi if he is chosen by the party as their candidate.
This announcement comes after a meeting between Atiku and Obi, which has sparked speculation about a potential merger of opposition parties leading up to the 2027 general elections.
The move to align opposition parties in an effort to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming election has been confirmed by Atiku, who emphasized the possibility of merging to achieve a common goal.

If the new party decides to allocate the presidential ticket to the South-East region and selects Peter Obi, Atiku stated that he would not hesitate to support him.
Atiku further reiterated his commitment to abide by the party’s decision, as he had previously stated that he would not contest the presidential ticket if it was zoned to the South or South-East.
However, he did participate in the 2023 presidential ticket race as it was open to all party members.
