The deputy governor of the state, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was given instructions to write a letter of resignation, which has been clarified by the speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji.
During the plenary, Oladiji provided clarification. He claimed that in order to prevent Aiyedatiwa’s impeachment, the previously indicated conduct was necessary. Recall that last week, the speaker met in the residence of President Bola Tinubu together with other state leaders.
The State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji Adesanmi, the State Government Secretary, Princess Catharine Oladunni Odu, and the State Chairman of the APC, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, were designated as the three enforcers who would keep an eye on the deputy governor’s adherence to the decisions made during the meeting, according to the speaker.
He declared, “To ensure everything is clear, allow me to present to the good people of Ondo State the resolution that was decided upon following the meeting of the State Executive Council, members of the National Assembly, representatives of the Ondo State House of Assembly, and the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress with His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and leadership of our great party.”
“That all parties accept peace; that all parties maintain the status quo; that all parties immediately end all impeachment proceedings; that all parties withdraw all court cases;” that the State Executive Council will not be dissolved.
“That an undated letter of resignation be written, signed by the Deputy Governor, and submitted to the President;” “That the leadership of the House of Assembly and the party remain intact;” and “That Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa continues to perform the functions of office as Deputy Governor;” he continued.
The Speaker made a statement regarding previous political occurrences in the state, stating that “it shook the entire State to the marrow.” I firmly feel that all of us carried out our duties as the people’s representatives in accordance with the directive that was given to us.
“The laws governed, guided, and directed our actions and inactions as a body of lawmakers, despite the fruitless attempts to blackmail and put a spoke in our wheel.” Thankfully, we all spoke and behaved in unison.
To be really honest, I have to admit that what we just saw was democracy in action. Democracy, in my opinion, is a type of participatory government that offers checks and balances as well as give and take.
It is a process in which the constitutions and the laws serve as guidelines for the ruler’s and the ruled’s actions and/or inactions.

When the situation calls for it, the procedure allows for questions and responses. As the people’s chosen representatives, we have only acted within the bounds of the freely granted mandate by our voters.
“We have shown bravery when the situation called for it. When we had a course that was appropriate for us, we asked questions.
Nevertheless, the incident that we have all recently observed has opened the door to evaluation and reevaluation.
Thanks to the Almighty God and the prompt intervention of our political leaders and elders who were adamant about bringing peace back to our beloved Sunshine State, everyone came out ahead in this scenario.
In this regard, we must express our gratitude to His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, for his prompt involvement.
We also have to praise the national and state leadership of our wonderful party, the APC, for stepping up to lead when the situation called for it.
In particular, we have to express our gratitude to our respected Afenifere leaders and elders, Pa Reuben Fasoranti and Pa Seinde Arogbofa, among others, for their peace endeavours during this crucial period.
In addition, we applaud religious and traditional authorities as well as other intellectual leaders for restoring peace to the Sunshine State.
Lastly, I would want to thank each and every one of you, honourable members, and
Respected colleagues, delegates of our people for choosing to walk the path of peace.
He remarked, “To be honest, there can never be a single bit of development in an environment devoid of peace.”
In the context of this restored peace in our beloved Sunshine State, Oladiji continued, “It is my sincere hope that the good people of our darling State will harvest more dividends of democracy and good governance.”
He pleaded with everyone to “bury the hatchet, sheathe the sword, and think of better ways to accelerate our darling Sunshine State’s much-needed development in the interest of our people.”
“On our end, I hereby promise, as always, on behalf of my colleagues, to keep working with the other branches of government and other interested parties to improve the way in which our citizens receive the benefits of democracy.”
“At this point, let me caution politicians and other gladiators who are stoking tensions in this state out of partisanship to please tread carefully, as the House of Assembly will not hesitate to use the full force of the law to bring them to order.”
