Nigerian musician Adewale Emmanuel, better known by his stage as Mayorkun, has disclosed the reasons behind his four-year mother’s identity concealment.
Mayorkun, the son of Nollywood veteran Toyin Adewale, revealed that he concealed her name in order to stop the bogus love her celebrity drew in an interview with media personality Taymesan that was posted on YouTube on Saturday.
The crooner of “Mama” stated, “My brother and I did not enjoy it when we were kids because our mother was a well-known actress. We desired independence, but her celebrity came with all the bogus attention.
“I detested being treated differently when I went somewhere—not because you disliked me, but rather because I am Toyin Adewale’s kid.
“For four years, not even at my university, did anyone know she was my mother. This was deliberate on my part.
“A girl noticed my mother when she delivered lunch to me at school one day. To ensure that no one else saw her, I hurried to where she was and grabbed the things she had brought.
