According to President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesperson, Femi Adesina, the president had the authority and opportunities to dismiss former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose from office but chose not to do so.
In a piece he penned to honor Buhari’s 80th birthday, which falls on December 17, Adesina revealed the information.
The presidential spokesman described how Fayose had attacked Buhari during the 2014 elections in his weekly essay, “Buhari at 80: No Malicious Bone in His Body.”
After the President won the election, Adesina pointed out
He could have reacted by using the state House of Assembly to bring Fayose down after the election.
The report asks, “How about Ayo Fayose, the Irunmole who eats Jollof rice?” The former governor of Ekiti State had opposed Buhari since 2014, during elections. He ran that infamous newspaper advertisement showing a coffin and suggesting that if Buhari were elected, he wouldn’t stay long.

Fayose’s party was defeated handily, and President Buhari arrived. What, in the case of the man with the teacup and saucer, would a typical, vindictive person have done?
“When Buhari took office, the APC members Fayose had inherited dominated the Ekiti House of Assembly.” Now what? Simply issue a directive ordering the governor’s removal within a week and instructing the Inspector General of Police to secure the Assembly room. Buhari, on the other hand. Why? mostly because he is completely without malice.
He noted that Fayose had a cordial handshake with Buhari at the Presidential Villa during a Council of State meeting.
