A resolution in the US Congress has been presented to recognise the Eid holiday and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Several other progressive House members have endorsed the resolution, which was presented this week by Representative Debbie Dingell in the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The campaign’s main goal is to “Recognise the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, commend a month of fasting and spiritual renewal, and extend best wishes to Muslims in the United States and around the world for a joyous and meaningful observance of Eid al-Fitr.”
It mentions that there are around 1.2 million Muslim voters in the US, 200 Muslim political politicians, and 4,500 Muslims serving in the military.
It states in its conclusion that it is determined “to demonstrate solidarity with and support for members of the Muslim community in the United States and throughout the world, the House of Representatives recognises the importance of the Islamic faith.”
The resolution further states that “in observance of and out of respect for Ramadan tradition, the Muslim holy month of fasting and spiritual renewal, the House of Representatives offers its best wishes to all Muslims celebrating Eid al-Fitr, the conclusion of Ramadan, while also expressing its deepest respect to Muslims in the United States and worldwide on this important occasion.”
