Radio stations in Ibadan have stopped playing songs by Naira Marley
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, some radio stations in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, have banned all music by Afeez Fashola, commonly known as Naira Marley, from playing on any of their platforms.
The decision was made, according to the radio stations’ explanations on Monday, as a result of the continuing inquiry into the strange death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad, a musician from Lagos.
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, the musician died last Tuesday at the age of 27.
Splash 105.5 FM and Agidigbo 88.7 FM were the radio stations that declared their choice.
The choice was made in light of the delicate circumstances of the musician’s passing, Splash FM acknowledged in an internal memo distributed to its workers on Monday.
“I shall urge us all to exercise discretion given the delicate situation surrounding Mohbad’s death and the criminal investigation the police have started.
“As a result, Naira Marley’s songs are now NTBB (Not to be Broadcast) on our stations till further notice. The statement stated that this was effective right now.
In a statement of its own, Agidigbo FM declared that it has stopped playing any music from Naira Marley’s Marlian Records.
This statement was made on Monday evening by Dr. Oriyomi Hamzat, the founder of Agidigbo FM.
“Starting today, all Marlian music-inspired songs are prohibited at Agidigbo.
He added, “All tracks from their music label have now been cancelled. We did not state they were the ones who killed him (Mohbad) however.
