The popular radio station Radio Omega was suspended on Thursday by the junta-led government of Burkina Faso for denouncing the coup in the neighbouring Niger Republic.

According to The Guardian, Ousmane Abdoul Moumouni is the spokesperson for a recently formed Nigerien organisation that is pushing for the election of Mohamed Bazoum as the nation’s next president.

In response to the interview, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Communications, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo, declared in a statement on Thursday that the radio station had been immediately halted in the best interests of the country until further notice.

According to Ouedraogo, “His organisation is clearly advocating for violence and war against the sovereign people of Niger and seeks to restore Bazoum by any means.”
