Governor Duoye Diri also told young people to stay away from violence and drugs before, during, and after the elections in 2023.

Duoye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, has urged young people to abstain from election violence and use their permanent voter cards (PVCs) to choose trustworthy leaders who can advance economic success, peace, and sustainable development.

The governor made this statement to young people at the Ecumenical Center in Igbogene at a programme dubbed “Prosperity Youths Day 2023.”

He claimed that the PVC is a weapon that gives the electorate political power and that young people need the card because it is more potent than an AK-47 rifle.

“The PVC is your AK-47,” he declared. You can intimidate people without a pistol or a machete. The youth in Bayelsa are clever and productive, not violent.

Elections are a very serious matter since they include picking the leaders who will guide their nation toward prosperity, development, and growth.

He also emphasised the necessity for young people to participate in the government’s numerous policies and programmes aimed at enhancing their capacity. He advised them to abstain from drug use and other forms of violence before, during, and after the elections.

Don’t let politicians use you as human shields to further their own nefarious political agenda. They lie to you and give you small gifts in order to threaten and terrorise rival politicians.

“Always have faith in yourself and in God.” Avoid cults and drug use. No one has the power to take away what God has for you.

Additionally, he urged anyone participating in kidnapping or other illegal activity to reconsider their actions because the government would not tolerate any violation of the state’s peace and stability.

In his speech, Doubara Kumokou, the leader of the Prosperity Youth Movement, thanked the governor for recognising the importance of empowering young people in the state.

The governor then debuted two musical records, gave three young people from each of the three senatorial districts a car, and gave a non-indigenous person a car.

The recipients are Ikem Chibuzor, Alakija Francis-Oyinbrakemi, Goodluck Monday, and Kalango Preye, all of the Bayelsa Central Senatorial District (non-indigene).
