Vladimir Putin is cited by former US President Donald Trump to support his claim that American democracy is gravely jeopardised.
The front-runner for the Republican nomination declared on Saturday at a rally in New Hampshire that incumbent Joe Biden, who would probably be his primary opponent in the 2024 presidential contest, was “a threat to democracy.”
He said, “Even Vladimir Putin says that Biden’s politically motivated persecution of his political rival is very good for Russia because it shows the rottenness of the American political system, which cannot pretend to teach others about democracy.” Now here’s the quote.
Trump claimed that the entire world is witnessing Joe Biden’s opponent’s “political persecution” and that he is “kicking his ass,” seemingly alluding to his performance against the sitting president.

Additionally, he brought up the statement made by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, whom Trump termed “highly respected,” stating that the Republican nominee is “the man who can save the Western world” because he has the ability to put an end to numerous international crises, such as the situation in Ukraine.
The quoted statements were made by Putin in September, when he implied that the increasing number of indictments against the former US president were an effort to discredit a prominent political figure that was out in the open. The Russian president declared, “They have just exposed their internal problems.”
Trump has been the subject of multiple cases in recent months, four of which have led to charges; all told, he is facing 91 criminal counts. According to the first accusation, he gave adult film actress Stormy Daniels hush money; Trump has refuted any involvement with her.
The second complaint concerns Trump’s purported removal of secret documents from the White House following his resignation. Two other indictments centre on his purported attempts to rig the 2020 election. To every charge, he has entered a not guilty plea.
The former president declared in November of last year that he would seek office once more in 2024, despite being involved in several legal disputes. According to a number of recent polls, Trump would easily defeat Biden in a potential rematch next year.
In the meantime, an NBC poll conducted in November revealed that just 40% of respondents thought Biden was doing a good enough job in office, marking the lowest popularity rating of his presidency.
