The Police Service Commission has officially announced the list of 10,000 successful candidates for recruitment into the constable and specialist cadres of the Nigeria Police Force.
The spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed this information in a statement on Tuesday, highlighting the collaborative efforts with key stakeholders such as the Nigeria Police Force, the National Assembly, and the Federal Character Commission to ensure transparency and fairness in the recruitment process.
Ani emphasized that the commission meticulously reviewed and approved the list, with 9,000 candidates selected for General Duty and 1,000 for the Specialists cadre. Additionally, the commission ensured an equitable distribution of successful applicants across the 774 local government areas in the country.
The recruitment process was overseen by a dedicated Recruitment Board comprising representatives from various organizations, including the PSC, NPF, Ministry of Police Affairs, Federal Character Commission, Police Colleges, and Police Trust Fund.
Applicants were given a six-week window to complete their online applications, adhering to the Federal Character guidelines.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) disclosed that a total of 609,886 applications were received. Out of these, 416,323 applicants who met the specified requirements were shortlisted for the second phase of the recruitment process, which involved physical and document screening.
This phase took place in all 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory from Monday, January 8, 2024, to Monday, January 29, 2024.
Following the physical and credentials screening, the commission shortlisted 171,956 applicants who qualified for the Computer-based Tests conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
On Tuesday, Ani mentioned that 15,447 general duty applicants who performed well in the CBT were invited for medical screening to assess their health status. Additionally, the 55,645 Specialists who passed the Physical and credentials screening underwent practical tests and subsequent medical screening. Each stage of the recruitment process was conducted with meticulous attention and care.
A total of 10,000 applicants, comprising 9,000 General Duty and 1,000 Specialists, were recommended for final selection.
The selection of specialists was carried out in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, ensuring capability and a balanced geographical representation.
Dr. Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the Commission and retired Inspector General of Police, emphasized that the rigorous recruitment process aimed to enhance the capacity and efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force, reinforcing its dedication to community-oriented policing.
Arase expressed his optimism, stating that these young individuals represent the future of the nation’s security. It is our collective duty to ensure that their journey begins on a solid foundation of integrity, transparency, and excellence.
The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) revealed that the entire process demonstrates a deliberate endeavor to establish a Police Force that is skilled, dependable, and truly representative of Nigeria’s finest qualities.
He emphasized that the final selection procedure was meticulously designed to guarantee fairness and inclusivity. As per the National Assembly’s Plenary decision on Thursday, February 29th, 2024, 10 candidates were chosen from each of the 774 local government areas. This decision aimed to create a Police Force that is diverse and representative.
The PSC Chairman further disclosed that, in order to maintain the utmost confidentiality, the list of successful candidates must be presented to the public in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023.
This measure ensures that the personal information of recruits entering a sensitive security organization remains secure, thereby safeguarding their personal and familial well-being.
