PSC promotes 8 CPs, 676 senior officers
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted 8 Commissioners of Police (CPs) and 676 other senior officers in its latest promotion exercise.
The approval for promotion of eight Commissioners of Police (CP) to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and 676 other senior officers to their new ranks has been given by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, who heads the Press and Public Relations department of PSC revealed this.
According to him, the group of eight CPs who received promotions were Benneth Igwe, Suleiman Abdul, Augustina Ogbodo, Stephen Olanrewaju, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie,Fayoade Mustapha,Adegboyega Adegboye and Mohammed Labbo.
According to Ani, there were 15 DCPs who received promotions and became CPs, while 52 Chief Superintendents of Police were promoted and assumed the rank of ACP.
He stated that 525 individuals holding the position of Superintendents of Police (SP) were elevated to Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP), and likewise, 84 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) received promotions to become SP.

A prerequisite for the promotion to their new ranks, was that all eight CPs and 15 DCP underwent an assessment and examination as confirmed by the PSC spokesperson.
The decisions were made during the inaugural Plenary Meeting of the commission’s new Board, which was chaired by Mr. Hashimu Argungu as their Chairman.
According to Ani, the PSC leader had encouraged recently promoted officials to regularly gain new knowledge and focus on deliberate self-growth in order to effectively confront 21st century policing difficulties.
According to Argungu, police officers will now have to undergo a formal examination as part of the promotion process. This new requirement is in line with civil service rule and applies across all areas of public service.
According to the PSC chairman, police officers will not receive any exemptions. Additionally, he noted that promotions within the police force would be based on merit and can be predicted.
He guaranteed that the Commission will not delay promotions for deserving Officers under any circumstances, provided they have earned it.
Argungu extended congratulations to the recently promoted officers, emphasizing that their advancement demands amplified devotion towards serving their nation.
He advised the officers to take a cautious, devoted and concentrated approach in combating insurgency and banditry within the nation.
