Sultan cautions Tinubu about protests spiraling out of control and provides advice on how to address the situation. Learn more about his recommendations.

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Abubakar, has appealed to protesters and their leaders to end the violence triggered by widespread demonstrations against hunger and suffering. He urged them to engage in peaceful negotiations instead.

The Sultan, referring to the Qur’an 6:43, urged for moderation and posed a question from the verse – “When they received affliction from us, why did they not humble themselves?” Professor Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, Secretary-General of JNI conveyed this urge through an official statement titled “Ongoing Protest – Sultan Appeals For Calm, Prayers More Restraint And Caution To All Nigerians.”

Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of JNI urges the protest organizers, their allies as well as vital players to stop all hostilities immediately and initiate a dialogue in view of his Eminence’s recent knowledge about on-going protests in Nigeria.

“An escalation towards an uncontrollable scenario is a genuine fear of ours, with reports pointing in that direction. We therefore call for the end of any snowballing rampage conducted under the name of protest on behalf of Allah, The Most High.”

It is important for us to comprehend that Nigeria must achieve stability before we can confidently identify ourselves as Nigerians.

As Friday approaches, we urge Jumu’ah mosque Imams and Muslim leaders to soothe any unrest within the Ummah and emphasize the importance of prioritizing peace over chaos. This will not only enhance our ability to perform congregational prayers but also promote harmony in all aspects of life.

During difficult times, the guidance from Qur’an emphasizes on being humble when faced with afflictions. As mentioned in 6:43 – “And if they had humbled themselves [in repentance], when our punishment came upon them, it would have been better for them.” Therefore, to overcome these challenges one must reflect sincerely while remaining humble and seek mercy through prayers to Allah – the ever merciful.

According to the Prophet (peace be upon him), supplication is a powerful tool for believers and illuminates both the skies and earth. So, let us consistently pray for Allah’s timely assistance.

During this time of sorrow, it is important for all Imams to initiate continuous supplications and/or prayers through Qunootun-Nawazil (special prayers during disastrous periods in the last Raka’ah of each mandatory prayer and voluntary prayers), without any distinction.

The call has become crucial because the protest is spiraling out of control and could have severe consequences for the West African sub-region.

The Sultan urges all Majaalis, Halqas, Islamic schools known as Madaris and Makarantun Allo, Muslim groups’ leaders in Nigeria to initiate Qunootun-Nawazil – a special prayer during difficult times. The aim is to seek Allah’s mercy for the nation of Nigeria.

All leaders and citizens of Nigeria are earnestly invited to revere Allah, since it is solely through this spiritual channel that beneficial intervention from the Ever Merciful Allah can be fully guaranteed.

During trying times, Muslims are encouraged to engage in self-reflection and increase their remembrance of Allah by glorifying Him, seeking His forgiveness through Istighfar, and continuously praying for relief using Du’a.

In spite of that, the Sultan of Sokoto earnestly requests the President of Nigeria to speak publicly and guarantee all citizens that his governance shall bring about peace, security, stability as well as alleviate suffering and ensure food sufficiency in accordance with God’s will.

In this moment of anxiety, state governors should not remain silent but instead take actions to calm nerves.

Amidst the current difficulties, we seek divine intervention for direction, safety, soundness of mind and body for our leaders. We also implore a harmonious atmosphere to be restored in Nigeria. May Allah Almighty grant expeditious solutions to all issues affecting the country. Aamin.
