Protesters Arrested for Destroying Govt Property Over Sokoto Monarch’s Killing

Several protesters have been detained by police in Sokoto after allegedly damaging government property during demonstrations sparked by the killing of a local monarch

Several suspects have been apprehended by the Sokoto State Police Command for their involvement in the demonstration that occurred at Sabon Birni, which is situated within Sabon Birni LGA. The protest was held following the passing of the kidnapped District Head.

In a statement issued in Sokoto, ASP Isah Mohammed, the deputy public relations officer of the Command revealed this information.

According to him, certain troublemakers had ignited both private and public facilities, such as the 25 housing units that were built by the government of the state for officials assigned to work in that region.

According to the statement, the Command will conduct a comprehensive investigation in order to uncover the specific factions responsible for staging protests within the vicinity.

The police will not sit idly by as individuals who are dissatisfied disrupt public order under the guise of protest; anyone implicated in these actions will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

As per the announcement, a team of mobile police officers has been deployed to maintain peace in the region. It is also advised that law-abiding residents can resume their daily activities as authorities are present to safeguard them.

The Command advised the general public to refrain from taking matters into their own hands, particularly those that necessitate judicial procedures.

On Wednesday, while returning to his domain after a meeting in the state capital, gunmen suspected of committing a crime along Sokoto/Sabon Birni road attacked and kidnapped the traditional ruler as reported by OBASANJONEWS.

Protests erupted in the region when it was reported that the monarch had passed away following 25 days of captivity.
