The Ondo State House of Assembly has begun the process of impeaching the state’s deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
During an extraordinary plenary meeting called by the House on Wednesday, the impeachment procedure was started.
We learned that the deputy governor was the target of accusations of flagrant abuse of power, which led to the impeachment process.
Aiyedatiwa was accused of engaging in actions that were outside the bounds of his official duties and obligations.
The impeachment notice against Aiyedatiwa was previously signed by 23 of the Assembly’s 26 members.
The number of legislators who signed the notice indicated that the necessary two-thirds were obtained.
Following the incident, there was a significant security presence at the assembly’s gate and on its grounds.
The permission of N300 million for the purchase of a bulletproof Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) allocated for his own use, according to what was learned, was the basis of the alleged misbehaviour.
According to a politician who asked to remain anonymous, Aiyedatiwa directed that the N300 million come from the palliative fund.
While Akeredolu was recuperating in Germany, the authorisation is said to have been given.
The Majority Leader, Hon. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, referenced section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution during the hearings to argue that the deputy governor must be confronted with the allegations before the House can take any action.
The motion was backed by PDP lawmaker Tope Agbulu, who represents Akoko Southwest 2.
As a result, the assembly gave Benjamin Jaiyeola, Clerk of the House, the assignment to write Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa a letter alerting him of the allegations of gross misconduct made against him.
