In a case brought by Martin Amaewhule on behalf of twenty-six others, an Appeal Court in Port Harcourt has set a ruling for (this) Friday, June 14, 2024. The appeal challenges the Rivers State High Court’s decision, which favoured Victor Oko-Jumbo, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
In a previous ruling, State High Court Justice Dagogo Jack found in favour of Oko-Jumbo in a lawsuit that removed Amaewhule and twenty-six other individuals from their positions as Speaker and members of the State House of Assembly and prohibited them from carrying out any legislative duties.
Additionally, Amaewhule and the other twenty-six people received an interlocutory injunction, which is now included in the appeal.

After hearing arguments from both sides on Thursday, the three-judge Appeal Court panel, presided over by Justice Jimi Olukayode-Bada, declared that they were prepared to rule on the case and gave all counsel instructions to appear in court by 9 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024.
All laws and bills passed by Amaewhule and the other members will be deemed legal in the event that the Appeal Court rules in his favour, allowing them to continue their legislative duties.
The legislators who are impacted are supporters of Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister.
