Pro-Fubara Group Rejects Calls for Governor’s Resignation and Impeachment

A pro-Fubara group has strongly condemned demands for Governor Fubara’s resignation or impeachment, describing them as politically motivated attempts to destabilize the state.

The Supreme Council for Sim, a political organization backing Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has vehemently condemned the demands for his resignation or impeachment.

Tony Okocha, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), called for Fubara to either step down or face impeachment. He accused Fubara of mismanaging state affairs, violating legal statutes, and showing disrespect towards President Bola Tinubu. This comes after President Tinubu previously intervened with an eight-point agenda to address the political crisis within the state.

At a media briefing in Port Harcourt, two leaders supporting the Fubara group labeled Okocha’s comments as provocative.

The group’s convener, Joshua Fubara, warned Okocha and others advocating for the governor’s removal not to confuse his humility with weakness.

He contended that had Governor Fubara taken the confrontational route like certain other political figures, it would have plunged the state into chaos.

He added that given the governor’s performance, the people of Rivers should be contemplating a second term for Fubara—an initiative that the group is already supporting.

Esezi Obilor-Rukani, another leader of the group, dismissed the impeachment threats by asserting that Fubara had not engaged in any impeachable offenses.

He praised the governor for leading with integrity and a compassionate touch, highlighting significant accomplishments like finally promoting civil servants after an eight-year delay and implementing an ₦85,000 minimum wage.

Obilor-Rukani states that the governor has wisely managed state resources, resulting in substantial investments in road construction, healthcare, and educational infrastructure.

The group stressed that, consistent with the Supreme Court decision, all political parties should unite to advance the state.

For this reason, they encouraged the Rivers State House of Assembly to accept Fubara’s invitation for dialogue before resuming legislative activities. They believed that such discussions would help reduce tensions and promote mutual understanding.
