Some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State are pushing back against the demands for the removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The state chairman of the APC, Chief Tony Okocha, had instructed the Rivers State House of Assembly to start the impeachment process against the governor.
This move comes amidst the political turmoil in the state due to the conflict between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
The APC members, operating under the Solidarity and Development Forum, criticized the impeachment call as “reckless and irresponsible,” warning that it endangers the foundation of the nation’s democracy.

They emphasized that the crisis was unnecessary, as President Bola Tinubu had already resolved the issue.
The group, represented by Comrade Kabir Matazu and Igwe Ude-Umanta, condemned the call as an attempt to disrupt the government and incite disorder in the state.
They highlighted that the President had urged all parties to maintain peace and seek a peaceful resolution, a call Governor Fubara had heeded to promote inclusivity and good governance.
The statement expressed disappointment in Chief Tony Okocha’s statements, which not only disregarded the President’s plea for peace but also posed a risk to the stability and advancement of their party.
