Nigerian artist Primeboy has filed a lawsuit against the police after being declared wanted. The singer claims the declaration was wrongful and has caused damage to his reputation.
Ibrahim Owodunni, widely recognized as ‘Primeboy’ and a childhood friend of the late singer Mohbad, has filed a lawsuit against the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly violating his fundamental human rights.
The lawsuit was submitted to the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on October 11, 2024.
The Lagos State Police Command reportedly declared Primeboy wanted on October 4, 2023, for failing to respond to an invitation during investigations into Mohbad’s tragic death.
Following the announcement, Primeboy turned himself in to the police the next day.
In a statement released by his lawyer, Akinpelu Ogunbona, on Thursday, October 17th, Primeboy is requesting a court order for the police to remove his name from their wanted list. He argues that the special police bulletin declaring him wanted “violates his right to dignity and respect as a human being.”
Ogunbona stated, “On October 11, Primeboy initiated legal action against the police by filing an originating motion at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.”
He is requesting the court to declare that the special police gazette bulletin issued by the IGP’s office, which declared Primeboy as wanted, violated Primeboy’s right to respect for his personal dignity.
Additionally, Primeboy requested that the court remove his name from the wanted list along with other appeals.
This occurs just a few days after Primeboy threatened to file a defamation lawsuit against Mohbad’s mother, Abosede Adeyemo-Aloba.
