Having served as a lawmaker in the 7th and 8th Assembly, representing the Kaltungo-Shongom Federal Constituency of Gombe State, Binta is now in the race against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate, Elon Manasseh Yamballi, who is a retired school principal.
Following her resignation from the PDP in October 2023 after an unsuccessful bid for the Gombe South Senate seat in 2019 and her subsequent loss in the PDP Senatorial Primaries for the 2023 general elections, Binta has now emerged as a contender for the APC Local Government Chairmanship position in the upcoming LG election through a consensus.
The list of candidates was submitted to the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC) and was signed by the APC State Party Chairman, Nitte Amangal, and the secretary, Abubakar Umar Goro.
Alongside Binta, other candidates listed for the election include Hon. Danladi Adamu and Habib Hassan for Akko Local Government, Ibrahim Salisu and Philemon Ezra for Balanga Local Government, Mrs. Egla Idris and Yila Maidawa for Billiri Local Government, Adamu Mohammed Waziri and Umar Manu Malala for Dukku Local Government, and Shu’aibu Abdulrahman and Umaru Busum for Funakaye Local Government, among others.
