Reporters Without Borders has called for the release of journalist Ihsane El Kadi, the news director of Radio M and Maghreb Emergent.
According to Radio M, six Algerian agents from the Directorate General of Internal Security went to the offices of Radio M and Maghreb Emergent and took laptops and papers before putting El Kadi in jail.
The last independent news sources in Algeria were considered to be the internet station Radio M and its sister website, Maghreb Emergent.

News sources say that the arrest and search were part of the authorities’ ongoing campaign of intimidation and harassment.
According to a tweet from Reporters Without Borders, the organisation “regrets these techniques and urges for the journalist’s release and respect for the work of the country’s media.”
