On Tuesday, ECOWAS, the Economic Community of West African States, received a letter from Nigerian teenagers requesting that ECOWAS persuade the federal government to annul the presidential election that took place on February 25.

In order to protest how the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, handled the 2023 presidential election, a young group has broken into the ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja.

The ECOWAS headquarters was overrun by young people who were angry over the election’s results and demanded that it be called off.

Moses Ogidi-Paul, the convener of the Free Nigeria Movement, pleaded with the international community, in particular ECOWAS, to persuade the Nigerian government to void the presidential election and appoint an interim committee while a new election is being held on behalf of the youths who were wronged.

“Our nation has to mend,” he remarked. Allowing a dishonest procedure to continue will not be beneficial since fraud will always give rise to further fraud. Our democratic system cannot flourish on deceit and mistrust. We need to weave a border around the gaps in our country’s fabric. One option is to swiftly set up a Truth and Reconciliation Committee in Lagos State and other hotspots of violence and voter intimidation during the presidential, National Assembly, gubernatorial, and state assembly elections. As a result, ethnic harmony among Nigerians would increase, and trust and confidence would be fostered.

“As concerned citizens, we think that our nation is destined for greatness and are optimistic that in the not-too-distant future, our faith will push our goals into becoming a reality. While we tend to the wounds of hope, this is our fervent supplication. We will not curse our nation or support those who curse it, despite the fact that they are forcing us to the edge. Whatever riches in dignity our nation may hold, we will not steal from them. We’ll cling to the assurance of peace, development, and togetherness.

When ECOWAS’ director of administration and general services got the letter, he or she praised the teenagers for acting in a peaceful manner and pledged to submit it to the proper authorities for further action.
