According to the president of the Central African Republic, the effects of slavery and colonialism have resulted in the impoverishment of the continent’s youth.

Faustin Archange Touadera, the president of the Central African Republic (CAR), has charged that the West is to blame for the migration crisis because it abused Africa’s natural riches and created economic hardship via slavery and colonialism.

Touadera stated to the UN General Assembly on Thursday that “these young people who represent the present and future of our continent, Africa, are desperately seeking to join the countries of the European continent, in search of an El Dorado.” He was referring to the recent arrival of thousands of African migrants on the Italian island of Lampedusa.

Nearly halfway between Libya and Sicily and less than 150 km (90 miles) from the Tunisian coast, Lampedusa has been overrun by migrants and is still a top place for people to arrive from North Africa. especially in light of Libya’s catastrophe with NATO support. Over 2,000 people are apparently being housed in a building on the island that was intended to host no more than 450.

After the UN migration agency reported that more than 8,000 migrants had arrived in 199 boats over the period of three days last week, the authorities on Lampedusa proclaimed a state of emergency. According to local mayor Filippo Mannino, the situation had reached a “point of no return.”

As of September 14, 125,928 immigrants and refugees had entered Italy, which is twice as many as during the same period previous year.

Giorgia Meloni, the prime minister of Italy, attributed the situation to migrant traffickers, while Arkadiusz Mularczyk, a prominent Polish diplomat, suggested earlier this week that the increase in numbers may be related to a Russian hybrid operation intended to weaken European Union support for Ukraine.

Touadera, the head of the CAR, opined otherwise in his remarks before the UN.

The leader declared, “This worsening of the migrant crisis is one of the horrifying results of the looting of natural resources of countries made impoverished by slavery, colonisation, and Western imperialism, terrorism, and internal armed conflicts.”

Germany declared last week that it would suspend its voluntary refugee-receiving arrangement with Italy due to Rome’s non-compliance with the Dublin Regulation of the EU. Germany has pledged to support an EU solidarity drive by taking in 3,500 migrants from member nations under severe hardship.
