President Tinubu: We must continue talking to the leaders of the Niger coup
The leaders of the recent Niger coup that ousted the legitimate government have been engaged, according to the Nigerian President and Chairman of the Economic Community Of West African States, ECOWAS.
This was stated by Tinubu on Thursday in Abuja when he opened the 2nd Extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS on the sociopolitical situation in the Republic of Niger.
The president claims that in order to reinstate the deposed constitutional government, the West African regional bloc will continue to support diplomacy and consultation with relevant parties in Niger.
In order to get things back to normal in the Republic of Niger, he emphasised the importance of holding sincere talks with all parties concerned.
“It is essential that we prioritise diplomatic negotiations and dialogue as the cornerstone of our strategy in reaffirming our unwavering commitment to democracy, human rights, and the welfare of the people of Niger.
He remarked, “We must hold sincere talks with all parties concerned, including the coup leaders, to persuade them to cede control and restore President Bazoum.”
