The introducation of a small change in the Student Loan Scheme has led to its official launch by the Federal Government.
At the State House in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu is presently commencing the inauguration of a presidential committee to supervise the plan.
President Tinubu has approved a sum of ₦35 billion to kickstart the programme and this amount will be distributed according to specific criteria by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund). The NELFund is targeting 70,000 first-time applicants.

During the inaugural meeting held in Abuja last month, Jim Ovia who was appointed by Tinubu as Chairman of the Governing Board for NELFund gave his approval for loans to be disbursed to successful applicants.
During the current inauguration at the Villa, President Tinubu is anticipated to furnish the implementation group with specific guidelines for ensuring that the program stays consistent with its designated purpose.
