President Tinubu approves N50,000 monthly for youths. Learn about this new initiative aimed at empowering young Nigerians.

To ease the prevailing economic difficulties, President Bola Tinubu has declared a monthly allowance of N50,000 for 10,000 young people in the Niger Delta.

During the Niger Delta Sensitisation Conference in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced this initiative.

Under the NDDC Youth Intensive Scheme, payments will be disbursed for a period of 12 months initially and may extend beyond that. Akpabio highlighted President Tinubu’s commitment to resolving issues in Niger Delta region and discouraged involvement in the nationwide protest scheduled on August 1.

Akpabio announced that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) will promptly execute a plan to provide N50,000 monthly support to 10,000 young individuals as relief from prevailing difficulties. He recognized the adverse consequences of oil and gas operations in the area and emphasized that President’s administration is taking measures to tackle economic issues.

President Tinubu has granted approval for the Lagos to Calabar coastal highway project, which is set to provide numerous employment opportunities for youths in the area. Additionally, Akpabio denounced a future nationwide protest as an attempt by anonymous individuals seeking to incite disorder.

Akpabio expressed that the 10 points agenda for the national protest fails to attract attention from Niger Delta and seems like a replication of Kenya’s situation. He further stated concerns about potential chaos this may bring upon Nigeria, urging public patience as they wait for implementation of Federal Government policies and programs.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong cautioned that the protest could worsen an already-struggling economy. He emphasized that removing petrol subsidies and unifying Nigeria’s currency were essential measures for preventing a national collapse.

According to Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of NDDC, President Tinubu took over a struggling economy but has already launched various initiatives to bring it back to life. Among these are Project HOPE that focuses on equipping young people with vital skills and collaborations established with both Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce and Bank Of Industry in aiding small as well as medium-scale businesses.

The President of the Ijaw Youth Council, Mr. Jonathan Lopkobiri, implored youths from Niger Delta to abstain themselves from partaking in nationwide protests and instead emphasized on maintaining stability for bringing development in their region particularly among Ijaw youth.
