The response from President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, highlighted the significance of former Katsina State governor Ibrahim Shema’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Onanuga emphasized that while Shema’s departure was a substantial loss for the PDP, it represented a significant gain for the APC.
The presidential spokesman conveyed this sentiment by stating, “PDP’s big loss in Katsina, APC’s big gain,” underscoring the impact of Shema’s decision to switch parties. Shema’s formal defection to the APC was marked by an official reception from Katsina State governor, Dikko Radda, signifying a notable shift in political allegiance within the state.
As a former governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema’s move to the APC marks a significant transition after his tenure with the PDP from 2007 to 2015. His registration at the Shema Ward party office in Dutsin-ma local government area, where he received an APC membership card from the state’s party Chairman, Alhaji Sani Aliyu-Daura, solidified his new political affiliation. The membership card, bearing the serial number 26551, symbolizes Shema’s formal entry into the APC ranks.
