Tupac Shakur, also known as 2pac, an award-winning rapper and film sensation, will be posthumously honored on June 7 with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Shakur will receive his plaque in the recording category, according to a statement issued by Walk of Fame on Wednesday.
Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, stated, “Tupac Shakur was a rapper, actor, activist, poet, and revolutionary; this iconic artist has remained a part of the zeitgeist decades after his death and will remain a significant cultural figure for many years to come.”Tupac’s star will undoubtedly be added to the list of most-visited stars in Los Angeles, as he is one of the city’s most famous residents,” Martinez remarked.
The announcement is also made just weeks before the late rapper’s 52nd birthday.
Tupac is internationally renowned for his unique blend of music, art, and activism, and his albums have sold 75 million copies worldwide.
The star unveiling ceremony would be hosted by emcee Big Boy and celebrity filmmaker Allen Hughes, who directed the acclaimed docuseries “Dear Mama: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur” which is currently streaming on F/X and Hulu.
On behalf of the family, Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur, Shakur’s sister, will receive the star.
Back in 1996, the award-winning artist was murdered by gunfire. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has awarded Diamond certifications to both “All Eyez on Me” and his “Greatest Hits” collection.
Tupac’s life continues to impact and influence culture as one of hip-hop’s most iconic figures. The majority of his life has been utilized for educational purposes in universities and classrooms around the world.
