Popular Nollywood actor “Mr. Ibu” pleads for assistance and risks amputation

Veteran Nollywood actor John Okafor, widely known as Mr Ibu, has openly appealed Nigerians for their prayers and support as he battles an undisclosed illness in a Lagos hospital.

The humorous actor made the announcement that his legs would be amputated in a video that was uploaded to his verified Instagram account on Wednesday.

I’ve been depressed for a long time. All I ask for is your prayers and support. I’m still lying down in the hospital when I speak to you. The medical director of this facility advised that the best course of action in the event that his novel concept fails would be to amputate my legs. Where do I go from here if they cut off my legs? Please ask God to intercede for me. I don’t want to have my legs amputated. God bless you, I’m grateful,” Mr. Ibu said.

Okafor’s wife and daughter said the actor had been depressed for the previous two weeks. They also made an appeal to the public in the video.

Personally, I’ve been organising the bills because I believed I could do it on my own. The children are at home while Mummy has been in the hospital. We believed that we could handle the situation on our own and that he would recover, but he is not doing better. We are in one of Lagos’ top private hospitals.

“Daddy has been in the basement before. He had gone up, down, up, and back again. So, if he’s not improving in one of Lagos’ top private hospitals, I believe we need people to band together and, if feasible, send him overseas for better care. He has struggled, trying to be a strong father. He is seeking life.

Personally, I’m worn out. This is the hospital bill that was recently given to us. I’ve run out of money. By me, I am helpless. In the video, his daughter cries out, “I need help.
