Politicians Sponsoring Insecurity in Igboland – IPOB Alleges
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have accused politicians of sponsoring insecurity in Igboland, calling for urgent action to address the rising threats.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have refuted any connections to criminal activities, alleging that politicians are responsible for creating insecurity in Igboland with the intent to damage the group’s reputation and hinder its objectives.
Emma Powerful, the Media and Publicity Secretary for IPOB, conveyed that the group is prepared to work alongside local security organizations to combat criminals who are purportedly backed by politicians.
The group further claimed that politicians are exploiting insecurity as a tool to undermine IPOB and its security arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). They argue this also serves to obstruct their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in his efforts to achieve Biafra’s restoration through a United Nations-supervised referendum.
“The goal of these Igbo politicians, fueled by envy and jealousy towards Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s popularity and international influence, is to collaborate with longstanding adversaries of the Igbo community in an attempt to dismantle IPOB, disband ESN, and force our leader to relinquish his divinely appointed mission. However, their schemes will not succeed,” the statement declared.
IPOB refuted allegations that the ESN was connected to the recent incidents of insecurity in Igboland.
The statement emphasized that it’s illogical and absurd to attribute every criminal or security incident to ESN. If the ESN were truly responsible, why didn’t insecurity begin in 2020 when it was established, or back in 2012 with the formation of IPOB? This narrative is merely a state-sponsored propaganda aimed at demonization, which only those who are easily misled would believe.
The group also accused politicians and security agencies of supporting and financing criminal elements, including a person in Finland, to undermine and mock IPOB’s legitimate pursuit of Biafran independence.
Reiterating its position, IPOB emphasized its dedication to justice and legality, vowing to collaborate with legitimate security forces to eliminate criminal elements in the region purportedly backed by those against releasing its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
