Such a proposal, according to the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, has not been presented to the President.

According to his media aide Dele Alake, President Bola Tinubu has not approved a wage review for judiciary and elected officials.

Alake, the President’s Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, called reports (not by Channels Television) that the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) had approved a 114% pay raise for the President, the Vice President, elected officials in the federal and state governments, and judges “misinformation” in a statement on Thursday.

President Bola Tinubu has not approved any pay increases, and no such proposal has been presented to him for consideration, we affirm unequivocally, according to Alake.

Although it is within the Commission’s constitutional authority to suggest and determine the wages and allowances of political office holders and judicial officers, according to him, such measures cannot take effect unless they have also been taken into consideration and authorized by the President.

“However, the fact that this untrue narrative gained notoriety on social media but also in a segment of mainstream media highlights the harm that false news poses to society and our country’s well-being.

“The misinformation was, obviously, contrived to create ill-will for the new administration, slow down the upward momentum and massive goodwill the Tinubu-led administration is currently enjoying among Nigerians as a result of its fast-paced, dynamic, and progressive policies,” he said.

Alake further warned the populace to dismiss news stories on governmental actions and policy matters that do not come from recognized official outlets.
