Policeman Kills Colleague in Dispute Over Used Phone

A policeman shot and killed his colleague during a heated dispute over a used phone, highlighting the dangers of internal conflicts within the force.

An inquiry into a sorrowful occurrence that took place on August 8, 2024 in the Surulere vicinity of Lagos is underway by the Nigeria Police Force.

It was reported that an altercation over a second-hand phone led to one police officer allegedly shooting and killing another officer.

As per reports, the occurrence occurred during a intense confrontation between the culprit and an individual known by the name of Mr. Vincent.

The detained officer purportedly aimed to shoot Vincent, but mistakenly hit Gabriel Audu instead. Regrettably, Audu was announced dead at the hospital.

At approximately 10:22 p.m. on the night of the occurrence, authorities were informed by the Control Room that an officer from SPU Base 10 Sokoto who was serving under a legal practitioner in Lagos had fatally shot Audu, also working for the same lawyer as well; this information was disclosed through a police statement.

After being alerted, a police team promptly arrived at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and apprehended Corporal U. Lawal as the suspect involved in the incident.

The AK-47 rifle utilized for shooting was seized from him by law enforcement officials.

Lawal admitted to the crime during questioning, revealing that his intended victim was Vincent (or Dogman), with whom he had been in a dispute over a secondhand phone.

Regrettably, Audu sustained a fatal chest wound when Lawal fired the weapon.

The body of Audu has been recorded and relocated to the hospital’s morgue for an autopsy.
