Tuesday at the Ahume end of the Naka/Makurdi Road in Benue State, gunmen kidnapped a police officer and two other people.
A source told Obasanjonews24 that the victims were returning from a burial ceremony when the gunmen ambushed them at around 4 o’clock on the expressway and took them to an unidentified location.
When the victims’ relatives were contacted, the kidnappers demanded a N1.7 million ransom.
When asked about the incident, Andrew Ayande, the chairman of the Gwer West Local Government Area, said that the neighborhood was well known for its crime.
He said, “This incident happened on Tuesday; we lost one notable local person on Monday, and they took the corpse home on Tuesday. As usual, the thugs arrived and attacked a group of people traveling in a car.
He emphasized that the car the victims were in had been taken to Naka Police Station as he described the kidnapping of a policeman and two other people at Ahume, on the Naka/Makurdi Road, around 4 o’clock.
According to the chairman, the kidnappers were seeking N200,000 from the victim’s family, N1,000,000 from the female victim, and N500,000 from the other victim. They were also seeking N200,000 from the family of the police officer.
When contacted, Catherine Anene, the state police public relations officer, stated that she had not yet obtained the report.
