Police have transferred suspects involved in the Russian flag incident to Abuja and are preparing to file sedition charges against them. The move follows a controversial display of the flag, raising concerns about national security and political dissent.

On Monday, the Kano State Police Command declared that it had relocated 76 individuals detained for hoisting Russian flags, which included a foreigner to the Force Headquarters in Abuja. They will be investigated discreetly with regards to sedition charges.

On Monday, Salman Garba, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State provided an update regarding the apprehension of individuals involved in the North’s tumultuous nationwide hunger demonstration.

Garba explained that the purpose of the press conference was to offer a detailed account regarding recent instances of violence in Kano State, which had led to indiscriminate destruction and theft of public/government property due to hooligans using national protests as an excuse. Additionally, he mentioned highlighting their accomplishments when it comes down executing measures for monitoring/heeding criminal activity from August 1 until now.

According to him, the Kano Command followed the orders of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun for all commands and formations. They worked efficiently and in an expert manner to cope with the consequences of these incidents, leading to 873 suspects being apprehended by them along with a significant amount of evidence recovered.

The arrest and subsequent transfer of 76 individuals, some bearing Russian flags, including a foreign national accused of sedition for discreet investigation at the Force Headquarters in Abuja was revealed by him.

In addition, the CP disclosed that 150 individuals have been apprehended and will face legal action for disobeying the curfew set forth by the Kano State government.

According to him, the police found evidence including two AK-47 rifles and “significant items stolen by the criminals at Audu Bako Secretariat NCC Office, High Court Complexes, Kano Printing Press, Super Markets etc.”

Although the recent protest presented challenges, it is crucial to emphasize the accomplishments made by the Police Command in preventing, managing and controlling crime during this review period.

According to the CP, by implementing proactive policing strategies along with community engagement, The Command has remained consistent and dedicated towards safeguarding the lives and properties of all residents in Kano State. During this time frame they have achieved significant progress through their efforts resulting in the arrests of two suspected kidnappers; five alleged armed robbers as well eight individuals believed to be responsible for car thefts.

The curfew that was put into effect in Kano State due to the outbreak of unrest during the #EndbadGovernance demonstrations has been indefinitely lifted by Governor Abba Yusuf, effective Monday.

On Monday, the disclosure was made by Halilu Baba Dantiye – the State Commissioner for Information.

On August 1st, the governor enforced a curfew lasting 24 hours following an originally peaceful hunger demonstration across the state that ultimately led to widespread violence, public and private property destruction in addition to looting.

The governor stated that the opening of banks, Sabon Gari market and other business premises in Kano is a clear indication that peace has returned to the commercial city. Consequently, he believes it’s appropriate to cancel the curfew without any definite timeline.
