Police successfully save hotelier in Rivers following N25m ransom payment
After paying a N25 million ransom, the Rivers State Police Command reported that its agents had freed a hotelier from Port Harcourt from the clutches of kidnappers.
Olatunji Disu, the commissioner of police for Rivers State, told reporters in Port Harcourt yesterday that the victim’s family had gotten in touch with the police when the kidnappers refused to release him despite having collected a N25 million dollar ransom.

He claimed that before the alleged perpetrators abducted the well-known hotelier in Port Harcourt, he had been shot three times in the leg.
“The victim was abducted in his home, but the victim’s family failed to notify the authorities right away. The family called the police when the thieves refused to release the victim despite a ransom of N25 million paid in US dollars.
Officers from the command headed to Agbonchia Forest in Eleme Local Government Area, Rivers State, on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. There, they were able to free the victim, and one of the kidnappers was hurt after a shoot-out with the police.
The suspects had one AK-47, two magazines, and RX 350 and 330 automobiles found on them. In a food flask, the kidnappers gathered the money, he claimed.
He continued by saying that the kidnappers had the stolen car repainted by a panel beater.
Speaking to reporters from his hospital bed in Port Harcourt, the victim described the kidnappers as having hell on their hands.
He acknowledged that the criminals had shot him three times in the leg before removing him.
