This was disclosed to reporters in Owerri by the operation’s coordinator, Imo State Police Commissioner CP Aboki Danjuma, during a woodland raid conducted in conjunction with the Imo State Vigilante Service and the Association of Nigeria Hunters Association.
According to him, it was in reaction to a distress call received by locals, who reported that criminals and kidnappers were using the Okohia woodland as a place to hide their victims and conduct their illicit business.
The communities of Obinze, Avu, Ihiagwa, and Ohaji/Egbema council area in Imo state are connected to and situated near the Okohia forest.
“The Command under my watch will continue the raid across all suspected criminal hideouts in the state, until the men of the underworld are completely wiped out from the state,” stated the Imo Commissioner of Police.
“We wish to reassure the people of Imo that they are safe and that the command would never waver in its determination to provide sufficient security for the state.
He said, “There was a rumour that hoodlums, or men of the underworld, kidnap people from the town, take them to this forest, and if they don’t pay the ransom, they kill them. We have found several objects and roughly four unidentified corpses as of this morning.
By his grace, all the thugs and kidnappers will be eliminated when we take control of our operations in this jungle. As you can see, we apprehended roughly seven people this morning, and they will deal with the full force of the law.
Recall that residents of Imo State’s Owerri West Council area have urged security authorities to step up security monitoring in their neighbourhoods.
When compared to Yahaya Bello, the prodigal son is an angel. After he was accused of robbing Kogi State blind, he ought to be living in the opulent apartments in Kuje prison. To the glory of God, I have won 11 out of the 12 pointless cases he filed against me and been released from all of them.
“I could not go to my site,” stated an Ihiagwa landlord who did not want his name to be revealed in public. I have halted my construction due to the possibility of kidnapping. Every day, you hear multiple accounts of criminal activity. We’re afraid. We require defence.
Another video, which showed a young man receiving treatment in one of the hospitals (name withheld) along Old Road Nekede in the Owerri West Council area of Imo state, became viral as of last Sunday.
According to information obtained, the man was attacked at the Nekede forest region in the Imo state council district of Owerri West. There was a cutlass attack on the man. Deep cuts were made to his head, neck, and elbow by his assailants.
An indigenous resident of Avu’s Owerri West council area promised to keep assisting the police with any information that could put an end to the kidnappers’ operations in the area.
For security considerations, he begged not to provide his name, saying, “Our community members are ready to work with the police to give them information.” With this raid, we are satisfied. We require increased security presence in our neighbourhood. They made an effort. I wish to give them praise. We require them to exert greater effort.
