Police Spokesman Reacts to Bandits Flaunting Cash Online

The police spokesman has issued a statement in response to a viral post showing bandits flaunting large sums of money, sparking public outrage.

Even though the Nigerian Police Force is committed to fighting crime nationwide, it acknowledges that arresting every offender concurrently is unachievable.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson of the NPF, shared this comment on X (previously referred to as Twitter).

Adejobi responded to images posted by a particular X user. These pictures featured purported terrorists displaying bundles of naira notes, suspected to be earnings from their abductions.

“The images show them flaunting their wealth with the ransom money,” was how the user had described it.

Adejobi commented by stating that capturing all the criminals simultaneously is not possible. Nevertheless, it’s essential to recognize those already caught and detained. On a daily basis, we apprehend numerous offenders in large quantities.

The dedicated work of the armed forces and police should be recognized as they put forth their greatest efforts. Resolving Nigeria’s security challenges, along with other criminal activities, demands a joint venture where every individual contribution counts.

Nigerians on social media responded to the post with a surge of reactions.

@smartakukoma raised doubts about the police’s agenda stating that “It’s impossible to track kidnapping and banditry within 2 hours, yet cyberstalking can. There seems to be a secret behind this Mr. Police Officer.”

@symplyDAPO expressed their dissatisfaction, asserting that not enough is being done to combat terrorism. They also asked if it was impossible to track the terrorists’ calls or financial transactions.

@Daddy_Tweens also pointed out the inconsistency in intelligence operations, suggesting that although there is seemingly efficient monitoring of potential protest hijackings, this same level of attention does not seem to extend towards bandits. In other words, while there appears to be adequate “intelligence radar” for one group’s activities , it falls short when it comes to another.

@de_generalnoni doubted the police’s technological prowess and queried if they lacked sufficient means to locate individuals. They also raised a point about highly skilled hackers being present within their ranks.

On the other hand, @BN_officially had a more optimistic view and mentioned that being active on social media and easily reachable is commendable.
