Police Service Commission Promotes Five DIGs, 15 CPs, 36 DCPs, and 61 ACPs
The appointment of AIG Yahaya Sahabo Abubakar as Deputy Inspector General of Police has been approved by the Police Service Commission.
In a statement released on Friday, Head of Press and Public Relations Ikechukwu Ani stated that DIG Yahaya Sahabo was the AIG responsible for Zone 14 Katsina prior to his appointment.
“He will replace DIG Habu Sani, who recently retired as DIG Force Intelligence Bureau and represented the Zone, as the representative for the North East Geopolitical Zone in the Police Management Team.
In addition, 122 other senior police officers were recommended for advancement by the Commission: 36 Assistant Commissioners of Police were promoted to Deputy Commissioners, 10 Commissioners of Police were promoted to Assistant Inspectors General, and fifteen Deputy Commissioners of Police were promoted to substantive Commissioners. The statement also stated that 61 Chief Superintendents of Police have been promoted to the position of Assistant Commissioners of Police.
The commission’s chairman, retired Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase, made the choices during the extraordinary management meeting that took place on Thursday, June 6, 2024, according to the announcement.
“One of the conditions for their promotion to the next level is an interactive promotion interview, which the 15 Deputy Commissioners of Police, 10 Commissioners and AIG Abubakar appeared before the Commission in session for.

The commission chairman informed the officers during the interactive sessions that “charting out pathways for effective policing and internal security management would have to necessarily orient from informed crafting and employment of an applicable mix of strategies, standard operating procedures, and tactics by the police, other law enforcement, and regulatory agencies of the state, mainstreaming a knowledge-driven police force staffed by a mentally mobile workforce refined for optimum service delivery,” given the dynamic and ubiquity of crime and criminality within the revolution in information and communication technology.
Arase tasked them with showing a sincere dedication to their sacred duty of safeguarding the people of Nigeria by efficiently defending lives and property, as well as preventing and controlling criminal activity throughout the country.
He said that the commission will be prepared to see to it that officers and men receive regular and predictable promotions.
