According to police in Nevada, a search warrant was executed this week in relation to the unsolved murder of rapper Tupac Shakur.
Detectives searched a residence in Henderson, a Las Vegas suburb, where Shakur was shot and killed in September 1996.
Due to the continuing investigation into his murder, Las Vegas Metropolitan police withheld additional information about the search.
Shakur was 25 years old when he passed away.
No suspects are currently in custody, and no arrests have been made.
The house that was searched is only about 20 miles (32 km) from the Las Vegas Strip, where Shakur was shot during a drive-by shooting.
The ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation, according to Las Vegas police, “can confirm that a search warrant was served in Henderson, Nevada on July 17, 2023.”
“At this time, we will not be making any further comments.”
Detectives were reopening the cold case, according to Las Vegas Police Lt. Jason Johansson, who was speaking to the Las Vegas Review Journal.
It’s an unsolved case, and perhaps one day we can change that, he told the publication.
Shakur, whose stage name was 2Pac, launched his debut album in 1991 and went on to have chart success with songs including California Love, All Eyez on Me, Changes, and I Ain’t Mad at Cha.
One week after being shot four times in his car while stopped at a red light, he passed away on September 13, 1996.
Shakur, whose music has sold more than 75 million copies worldwide, was admitted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.
