Police Recover Explosives in Borno State, Avert Potential Disaster

Security forces in Borno State successfully recover explosives, preventing potential harm and ensuring public safety. 

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit of the Nigeria Police Force has recovered unexploded military ordnances in Maiduguri, Borno State.

A statement from Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi notes that it was based on reports from alert residents.

He stated that the Force’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) team was deployed to secure the affected areas. All ordnances were safely evacuated without any loss of life, injuries, or property damage.

The statement also mentioned that in the Dala Kacchallah area, the operatives found six unexploded projectiles and one mortar bomb near an unfinished building. These items were washed ashore by recent flooding and subsequently abandoned by local scavengers.

He reported that a military hand grenade was found at the Gwange Riverbank. The EOD-CBRN team safely removed it and then conducted explosive risk awareness campaigns to educate the residents.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, all ordinances have been safely removed and the areas are now deemed safe.

He stated that investigations are underway to determine the origins of the recovered items and prevent similar incidents in the future.

In response to the development, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun praised the officers for their professionalism and bravery.

IGP Egbetokun reassured Nigerians of the Force’s dedication to maintaining public safety and security.

The police spokesman added that the IGP highlighted the consistent responsiveness and professionalism of the EOD team in Borno State, which has successfully prevented numerous disasters by safely recovering many IEDs on multiple occasions within the state.
