According to the Lagos State Police Command, the autopsy report for the late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known by his stage name Mohbad, was completed two months ago, but they have not yet received it.
It has been two months after the late Mohbad’s body was dug up and an autopsy was performed to ascertain the singer’s cause of death. Today, Tuesday, November 21, 2023, is that date.
In response to the outcry over Mohbad’s death on September 12 in Nigeria and abroad, the police assembled an inquiry team to determine the cause of the singer’s passing.
In September, Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the state police, tweeted that a “autopsy has been concluded” and the authorities were “awaiting result.”
In October, Mohbad’s murder was linked to a number of main suspects, including then-Commissioner of Police Idowu Owohunwa, who said that Mohbad had experienced vomiting and goosebumps following three injections from nurse Feyisayo Ogedemgbe on September 12, 2023.
Following it, charges were brought against a few of the suspects.
However, last Friday, the state Police Command freed singers Azeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley, and Balogun Samson, better known as Sam Larry, after they fulfilled their bail requirements. Following the release of footage online showing the late singer being assaulted, they were taken into custody as part of an inquiry into Mohbad’s death.
In response to a question from one of our correspondents on Monday regarding the release of Mohbad’s autopsy report, Hundeyin said that the report had not yet been officially received by the command.

“We haven’t received the autopsy report,” stated Hundeyin. There have been some reports going around that it’s ready. It is one thing for it to be prepared; it is quite another for it to be formally delivered to us, requiring our signature on a copy confirming receipt. Therefore, we operate with facts rather than rumours.
Bella Shmurda, a Nigerian musician, had pleaded with the police on Saturday to allow Mohbad’s body to be released.
Bella voiced her worries about the protracted hold-up in the delivery of Mohbad’s body—which had been kept for an autopsy for the previous two months—on his X account late on Saturday.
In order to provide for a respectable funeral, he begged the authorities to move quickly and release the body. Bella further demanded that the autopsy results be made public as soon as possible.
“Please release Mohbad’s body. It’s been over two months since he passed away. His body was taken in for an autopsy, but there has been no result as of yet, which is fine.” That boy deserves to finally rest and receive a fitting burial. Hey Naija Police, what’s up? Here is where we need an answer: where is the outcome? His body is where?
However, Hundeyin went on to say that the autopsy results would be independently provided to the police once they were complete, and that only the singer’s family attorney could write to the pathologists to release them.
