Police Ordered to Arrest Protesters Blocking Roads – Edo Govt

Security agencies have been directed by the Edo State Government to apprehend protesters affiliated with #EndBadGovernance who are impeding vehicular traffic, blocking major roads and extorting motorists.
On Sunday, in a statement provided to reporters in Benin City, the Commissioner of Communication and Orientation – Chris Osa Nehikhare urged for action.
According to Nehikhare, every individual apprehended will be subjected to the complete consequences of their actions under the law.
He states that security forces have been authorized to capture and detain any individuals who disrupt public peace or engage in criminal activities during the protest. Therefore, he warns hoodlums and criminals against attempting to exploit the situation for their benefit.
Information has been received regarding individuals who are obstructing major roads, causing vehicular traffic to come to a halt and engaging in extortion of motorists. Authorities have instructed security personnel to apprehend all those participating in these unlawful acts and they will face the legal consequences as stipulated by law.
According to him, the peaceful behavior of demonstrators during nationwide protests was acknowledged by the state government.
In addition, he noted that the demonstrators have conducted themselves responsibly while voicing their opinions and drawing attention to the current state of affairs in the country.
The commissioner stated that during the past four days, the demonstrators exhibited lawful behavior and formed connections with members of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other security organizations present to oversee orderliness throughout their protests.
He urged the law-abiding individuals in society to carry on with their lawful activities without any worry, as the government would persistently strive towards advancing and developing the state.
