In Adamawa State, police officers stopped a plot to abduct a businessman and murdered one of the alleged shooters.
According to a statement released by the Adamawa Police Command on Wednesday, command personnel assigned to the Gombi Divisional Police Headquarters and some hunters “foiled an organised crime to abduct One Gideon Bitrus, a resident of Jangra village in Gombi local government area, in an operation on 6/9/2023.
According to the statement, the command set up a security perimeter around the intended victim after getting the intelligence, engaged the suspected kidnappers, and stopped them in their tracks.
The five gang members were fighting with guns. One was neutralised as a result, while the others fled with gunshot wounds, according to the statement.
It further stated that the state’s chief of police, CP Afolabi Babatola, thanked DPO Gombi, his troops, and the hunters for their bravery in preventing crimes and gave them the go-ahead to keep up the pace in order to continue battling crime.
“The CP calls on the populace to always inform the police of the whereabouts of criminals, especially those treating wounds,” the statement continued.
It said that the suspects had turned over a locally produced firearm, three ammunition, some charms, and N2,700.
