The Police have revealed that their raid on the NLC complex targeted a specific floor used by a suspect accused of threatening Nigeria’s democracy. The operation has drawn attention to the broader implications for national security and political stability.

Last Wednesday, the Nigeria Police Force conducted a raid on the second floor of the Complex of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja. The purpose was to search for incriminating documents that would establish a case against an international “subversive” entity who poses as a threat to Nigeria’s democracy according to authorities.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today show, Force representative Muyiwa Adejobi disclosed that a suspect was being harbored by the labor union in one of their floors during the August 7, 2024 raid at NLC Complex.

According to Adejobi, the targeted area was not the 10th floor which is where NLC HQ is located, but rather it was the second floor that houses an office utilized by the suspect.

“The evidence we obtained indicates that the individual is a potential danger to our country. He has been recognized as an alleged subversive component,” stated Adejobi.

The NLC reported that its head office in the national capital was raided by heavily armed security personnel at approximately 8:30 pm on Wednesday and essential documents were taken away.

However, a representative of the Force declared that there existed a landlord-tenant dynamic between the NLC and the international accused individual, whose associates in their syndicate have been apprehended.

According to Adejobi, the raid bore no relation to the ongoing nationwide protests under #EndBadGovernance.

He stated that a forensic investigation has been initiated by the police and that the NLC’s assistance would be required in investigating an individual who claims to have multiple foreign identities, including Russian and British ones.

Adejobi hinted that the suspect frequently travels outside Nigeria and made it clear that the NLC is not in question; our focus is solely on apprehending our target by any means necessary.

Adejobi said the mission was to retrieve specific evidence that could incriminate, not solely to apprehend a man – and we have successfully obtained our desired outcome.

The suspect was charged by the police with subversion and a threat to undermine the country.

“We have discovered plans to undermine Nigeria and destroy our democracy, along with our shared identity as Nigerians. We cannot remain silent in the face of this threat…We are receiving ample assistance and we will apprehend those responsible,” he proclaimed.
