Two individuals have been taken into custody by the Ekiti State Police Command on charges of breaking into private properties and stealing motorcycles in the state capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu, stated in a statement made public in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday that the suspects were taken into custody by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad on the basis of reliable information.
According to the statement, Babale Timothy was detained on May 19, 2024, by the Command Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) in the Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti while attempting to sell a stolen Bajaj motorcycle that he had stolen and was parked next to other gang members who were still at large. This arrest was made in response to a credible tip.

“During questioning, the suspect admitted to committing the crime and said that he is a part of a syndicate that targets motorbike theft in the Ado-Ekiti area.
“He also disclosed that he is a former prisoner who was detained and charged with a comparable crime in the past.
Likewise, one Sanmi Ajayi was taken into custody by Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) agents for breaking into the homes and properties of three separate individuals in the vicinity of Irewolede Estate, Ilawe Road, Ado-Ekiti, and taking millions of naira’s worth of goods.
Items included a Playstation 5 console, laptop, extension box, PS-5 controller and disc, Oraimo clipper, phone charger, JBL BoomBox 2, and raw food items were found on the suspect during questioning. The suspect also admitted to committing the crime.
“Action is being taken to apprehend additional gang members who are on the run and retrieve additional pilfered goods.”
