Police Nab Gunrunner, Recover 20 AK-47 Rifles in Kaduna
Kaduna police have recovered 20 AK-47 rifles from an alleged gunrunner, marking a significant step in the fight against illegal arms trafficking.
The Nigeria Police Force’s Kaduna State Command reported that its officers had apprehended a well-known gunrunner and found 20 AK-47 weapons that were made locally.
Bitrus Gyang, the suspect, was arrested on September 19, 2024, at Buruku Bridge by police from the Buruku Division while on a regular patrol. Bitrus Gyang was a resident of Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, according to the state’s Force Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan.

The guns and an empty Type 06 magazine were concealed in the boot of a black Golf 3 saloon car, according to ASP Hassan, who made this revelation on Friday. At the same time, Gyang admitted to being a gunrunner and said that he had previously carried fake firearms on at least three occasions.
He stated that the suspect is assisting the police and that they are looking for his accomplices.
Audu Dabigi, the Commissioner of Police, praised the policemen for their commitment to duty.
“Throughout the state, kidnappers and bandits will continue to have no breathing space,” he declared.
