In an attempt to incite fear throughout the nation, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a warning on the dissemination of an outdated film featuring armed terrorists.
The armed militants can be heard speaking Hausa in the widely shared video.
But according to Force Spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi, the film was made in 2018 and has been circulating again to frighten Nigerians.
Adejobi cautioned those responsible to cease disseminating misleading information in a statement he signed.
Adejobi claims: “The Nigeria Police Force hereby addresses a trending video that has recently garnered substantial attention and created broad worry. The video shows a group of people who appear to be armed terrorists brandishing assault guns, along with a Hausa-language commentary.
The NPF Cybercrime Center’s extensive and in-depth videographic investigation has revealed that the video in question was first produced and shared on May 28, 2018. According to our research, the video was recently shared again with a false narrative in an effort to unnecessarily scare and upset the nation.
The Nigeria Police Force is advising anyone who intentionally disseminate false information that doing so is reckless, illegal, and legally punishable. At the same time, the force is pleading with the public to maintain composure and refrain from disseminating untrue information. Such acts have the potential to seriously damage, spread fear, and destabilise our nation.
“The Police guarantee that anyone discovered to have contributed to the production or distribution of false information will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
“We urge everyone to report any suspicious activity or content to the authorities and to rely on official channels for accurate updates.”
