On Sunday, a police inspector and five other individuals were reported dead in Aba following an attack on a patrol unit by the Abia State Police Command.

An official statement from SP Maureen Chinaka, Abia’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident.

Chinaka reported that Inspector Shehu Oyibo and three civilians were killed during a shoot-out with unidentified attackers in the attack.

Moreover, the confrontation resulted in the demise of two assailants.

Identified as the victims who tragically lost their lives are Chika Godliveth, Onyenaturuchi Jonah from Item, Abia aged 32 and Eniobong Godsgift Clement aged 18 and hailing from Akwa Ibom. The attackers’ bullets struck them down mercilessly.

Various degrees of injuries were sustained by the other members of the gang who managed to flee, as mentioned by Chinaka.

At approximately 11:28 a.m., armed men riding in an ash-colored Sienna vehicle launched an attack on police officers patrolling Ngwa Road/Mosque Junction as part of the Rapid Response Squad. Despite this aggression, the law enforcement officials were able to repel their assailants and avoid a potentially more serious incident.

The expired individuals have been moved to a funeral home, and authorities are actively investigating in order to capture the perpetrators who fled. Chinaka provided reassurance regarding public safety while also urging citizens not to let fear disrupt their daily routines. Furthermore, she suggested that residents report any dubious figures or those displaying signs of bullet wounds directly to nearby law enforcement stations for assistance.
