Police investigators from Yobe State’s Crack Squad conducted a raid and captured a 35-year-old kidnapping kingpin.
Mohammed Wada was the culprit who was found in possession of lethal weapons when he was apprehended in Kanda village in Kolere community, Fune Local Government Area.
This was revealed in a statement made accessible to journalists in Damaturu on Thursday by the Command’s public relations officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim.
“On September 25, 2023, at around 1700 hours, detectives from the Crack Squad responded to a distress call about a gang of bandits who were preparing to attack innocent civilians by servicing their weapons and ammunition,” the PPRO stated.
The suspect admitted to organising and carrying out numerous kidnapping instances in some sections of Damagum, Kolere, and some regions of Tarmuwa and Dapchi local government districts, the police official said.
“The suspect also cited two incidents, in which the families of the victims paid ransoms of N2.5 million (Two Million and Five Hundred Thousand Naira) and N5 million (Five Million Naira)”, the author stated.
Two constructed handguns, one pump action gun, and some ammunition were found on the suspect.
The investigation has started, DSP Abdulkarim continued, and more syndicate members are being sought for arrest.
In the meantime, Garba Ahmad, the state commissioner of police, praised the officers and men of the command in the statement for their efforts in the recent victories they had seen and asked them to keep up the pace.
The CP made a request to the state’s good citizens for further support, particularly by disclosing reliable information concerning the locations of criminal elements’ hideouts.
